AIR FORCE GETS LAND ADJACENT TO NELLIS AFB

The U.S. Air Force quietly took possession of nearly 4,000 acres of land near Nellis AFB, Nev., Lt. Col. Tom Boyd, Air Force spokesman, said April 14.

Nellis Air Force Base is home to the secret Groom Lake range, where the Air Force tests new aircraft.

The land transfer from the Bureau of Land Management was done "to ensure the safety and security of Nellis Air Force Base," Boyd said.

The area surrounding Groom Lake has been a favorite gathering spot for people eager to catch a glimpse of developmental aircraft.
